Malachite is a mono-clinic crystal that has been mined between the Suez and Sinai since 4th century BC. In antiquity, the Egyptians used this alkaline copper carbonate mineral for amulets and jewelry. Perhaps because of its rich green hue evoking Spring, it is traditionally thought to promote growth and worn by children and pregnant women.
